It is hard to recommend feeds for you, I think this should be discussed with a veterinarian or a nuturtionalist. I do not feed my horses Alfalfa, it is high in protein and most horses do not need a high protein food as they are not being used enough to burn up the feed. I feed my horses a Timothy Orchard mix for AM and PM feeding and I feed a flake of Oat at lunch. They also recieve a feeding of Better Balance Feed and their Vitmains and Trace Minerials. Each horse is different and it is best to consult a Veterinarian if you have any questions about feeding.
Which type of hay is best for horses? Or does it depend on the horse? I have a 4 year old quarter horse. I don't use her for breeding or competition. I mostly ride her in the arena at the ranch that we keep her at. Sometimes I go trailriding with her. But since my experience is minimal we usually only do short trail rides (about 2 hours at most). I keep hearing about timothy hay and alfalfa hay….but i don't know which is best. Our ranch uses alfalfa, should I switch my horses hay?
