Hi Gary, Four months in the saddle isn't much time. Patience is very important. My first question would be is that 4 month of riding every day or 4 months of riding once a week. People usually don't give themselves time to condition their muscles to working with the horses movements. Since I haven't seen you ride I can only guess that you are putting to much pressure on the bars of you stirrups and pressing down on them. This would cause you to push yourself up out of the saddle rather than stay connected around the saddle. You need to keep a relaxed rhythmic feel on the bars of your stirrups and have some flexibility in your ankle so it can absorb the rhythm and motion of the horse. You thighs play a huge role in staying connected to the saddle. Another question I have is are you gripping with you calves? If you are this could cause you to come up out of the saddle and bounce. I hope I have left you with somethings to think about with your riding and in someway helped to answer your question. Thank you for contacting me. Kathe
I bounce in the saddle a lot. I ride western. I noticed the other day that other riders don't seem to bounce in the saddle as much as I do. How do I refrain from bouncing in the saddle so much? Is there a certain technique that I need to adopt or is it just going to take more experience on my part. I've been riding for about 4 months so far. Any advice?
